Angus Walker

Chief Executive Officer

BEc (Bachelor of Economics), BNatRes (Bachelor of Natural Resource Management)

Angus Walker commenced as Chief Executive Officer of Empire Oil and Gas in July 2017.

Angus possesses extensive experience in the oil and gas sector specifically and the broader energy sector in general, including significant commercial, strategic and capital markets expertise, as well as operational experience. He holds a degree of Economics from Macquarie University and a degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of New England.

Prior to commencing at Empire, Angus was Head of Energy, Asia Pacific for the Canaccord Genuity Group, where he provided corporate advisory and equity capital markets services to domestic and international corporations throughout the Asia Pacific region. This included private and public equity, recapitalizations, debt refinancing, reverse takeovers, takeover defence and IPOs.

Other experience in capital markets related positions included Director, Oil & Gas for Southern Cross Equities (during which time the Company was acquired by Bell Potter Securities) and Director, Oil & Gas for Patersons Securities.

Angus also spent four years with Ernst and Young, mostly as National Leader, Oil and Gas Advisory Services. In that role he was responsible for driving Ernst and Young’s global oil and gas sector strategy for Australia and New Zealand as well as executing advisory engagements, primarily focusing upon LNG and upstream gas projects.

His oil and gas experience stems from eight years with Shell Australia, performing a variety of roles including: Commercial Manager North West Shelf (Gas & Power, Upstream), Sales and Marketing Manager (Commercial, Downstream), Australian & NZ Product Manager (Chemicals) and Master Production Scheduler (Oil Products).

 

Rachel Rees

Chief Financial Officer & Company Secretary

B.Bus (Acc), Grad Dip ACG, FTIA, FCIS, FGIA, FCA

Rachel is a Senior Executive and Chartered Accountant with extensive commercial, strategic and risk management, corporate governance and financial management experience. She has a track record of success over more than 25 years across a broad range of industries including energy & resources and the industrial sector.

Prior to joining Empire, Rachel was Chief Financial Officer of the ASX listed Rex Minerals Ltd. Previously, Rachel was Vice President-Corporate Affairs: Australia for TSX listed Uranium One. At Uranium One Rachel was an integral part of the leadership team that developed Australia’s fourth uranium mine from feasibility study through to a well-respected emerging producer.

Rachel’s previous roles include auditor with PWC, as well as executive and operational roles in multinationals and listed corporations including Hills Holdings Ltd and Argyle Diamonds.

Milton Schmedje

Exploration Manager

B Sc (Applied Geology) Hons.

Milton is a commercially focused, laterally thinking geologist with considerable experience in hands-on technical as well as management roles. He has held senior positions with Ampolex (now Exxon Mobil-Mobil), Oil Company of Australia (now Origin), Petroz (now Conoco-Phillips), Energy Equity (now Energy World), Amity Oil/Antares Energy, LNG Limited, Australian Worldwide Exploration and Tap Oil.

Milton’s strong background in both active operating environments and in business development was developed throughout Australia, Africa, Turkey, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, India, Iran, Philippines, Vietnam, PNG and USA. 

Barry Ashwin

Operations and Engineering Manager

BSc (Eng) Hons.

Barry has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas upstream industry in technical and operational management roles. After graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering from Imperial College, London University, he worked with Schlumberger as an international field engineer in production testing and data acquisition & interpretation, before moving into FPSO and production management roles in Australia and Far East. Barry’s expertise include onshore and offshore FPSO/fixed platform production operations, contract and safety management and plant optimisation.

Barry has held previous positions with Marathon Petroleum (Australia), BHP Petroleum, ARC Energy, ROC Oil, Otto Energy and Bluewater Offshore.
